Obesity is the accumulation of excess fat in the body leading to great increase in weight and size.Obesity is over-weight in the extreme.
Obesity is determine by the Body Mass Index(BMI)which means the body weight in kilograms divided by the height in meter square.
The human body could be said to be under weight,normal weight or obesed.All these are determined by BMI(Body Mass Index)
When the Body Mass Index is below 20kg/m2,the body is said to be under weight.This is unhealthy.
The normal and healthy BMI is between 20 and 25kg/m2.Anything from 26 to 29.9kg/m2,the body is over weight and worse still,from 30kg/m2 and above,it is refered to as obesity.
CAUSES OF OBESITY
The primary cause of obesity is the consumption of food substances high in calories more than the body needs or uses.The extra fat is stored in the body giving rise to over weight there after resulting in obesity.
*Over eating as a harbit leads to obesity.
*Heavy consumption of starchy food substances
*Hormonal reactions and secretions-This could be link to heredity.
*Inactivity and insufficient exercise also encourages obesity.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF OBESITY
The following are the resultant effects of obesity to the human body.As it is already said,it is not helpful or healthy to the human body.It include;
*Tiredness of the body
*High Blood Pressure
*Lungs and heart related diseases
*Uterine Prolapse
*Gall stone
*Diabates Mellitus
PREVENTION & CONTROL OF OBESITY
*Eat good and balance diet at all times.
*Multiple consumption of fruits and vegetables
*Regular exercise
*Lead an active lifestyle
*Avoid heavy and starchy meals especially at bed time.
*Routine check up at six months intervals.
*Maintain a normal and healthy Body Mass Index of 20 to 25kg/m2.
